Getting Started

Your biggest hurdle is withdrawing from nicotine. You have many choices:

1. Substitute
Substitute the nicotine from cigarettes with nicotine from patches, lozenges or gum.
An easy and a good way to start, but you are substituting one form of nicotine and addiction for another. Be sure to switch to a no-nicotine product such as CigArrest after a week or two.

2. Filters
A system of four filters, each to be used 7 to 14 days. The first filter eliminates up to 25% of nicotine and tars; the second up to 50%; the third up to 70%. By the fourth filter you will be eliminating up to 90% of nicotine and tars.

3. Cut out smoking in stages.
Smoke fewer cigarettes each day. A great way to start. Gets harder as you when you get to just a few cigarettes.

4. Cold Turkey.
You have to be desperate but it works.

The best way to start?

Depends on your stress level, motivation and will power. If you lack all three, try substitution. If you can reduce your stress, try the filters. If you are highly motivated cut your smoking by 50% for a week and then quit.

Whichever method you choose, reward yourself as you work towards your goal.
